Seems they've removed it after you have posted Tony!
I've searched on ITV Player to see which programs have the subtitles. Unforunately NONE of them do have subtitles!

Says "Subtitles not available" - Probably because it's old which was dated back sometimes in December or thereabout.
Clicked the link you provided btw to see what the subtitles is like

However, I'm not overly excited because they still won't work on games consoles or mobile phones. (Not even BBC iPlayer does!)
We still have a long way to go for full access that our hearing counterparts get.

Well, I thought i pretty obvious really. I mean, you have no control over the software produced.
But Android is Android. Symbian is Symbian. iPhone is iPhone. Wii is Wii. Etc. There might be a few but.....
So you see what I mean? Excuses, excuses. It CAN be done.

I'm with Legs here - Android for example come with Flash (that's how you watch iPlayer on Android) - but there's no subtitles. It's Flash. They don't need to make it for each various Android devices - just Flash.
iOS devices - they use h.264 streaming - just add a subtitle stream to it, the H.264 codec allows for this, and iOS device support it too (Android devices also support H.264 btw).
And it's about time ITV is doing it, but I'm still not impressed.
I complained to ITV about lack of subtitles in 2008. In 2009. In 2010. It's now 2011 - 3 years later. What could be such a massive technical challenge that it took them three years to sort out? Answer - there aren't any barriers - the truth is that they couldn't be bothered to do this - it cost money blah blah.
Mind you, one real reason is that they're only starting to roll out subtitles is because of the Equality Act 2010 - this legalisation does state that websites in UK must be accessible and if they fail, in theory we can argue for the site to be taken down until they improve accessiblity.
I plan on using this against LoveFilm for their streaming service (they can't argue that it's too expensive - LoveFilm was just bought out by Amazon and they're not short of money)
