Hi

I was watching Firefly DVD on small 16 inch television - the subtitle show perfectly but when I use on the big widescreen 28-inch television and if the subtitle goes on the top of the screen - it won't show up on widescreen television (but it did on small television). I have tried to change format to widescreen, tv 4x3 and tv pan scan on television and on DVD player too but subtitle still won't appear on the top of the screen but when subtitle on bottom of screen it is fine!

I don't understand why this is happening? Can anyone clarify this about mystery disappearing subtitle?

Hi,

I watched Firefly many times (by the way great taste) on widescreen 28 inch television with subtitle which goes on the bottom of the screen as normal expected. Not sure why it is affecting yours. What is the dvd player are you using and how is it connected to the tv (via scart, av or arial)? And most importantly is the dvd orignal?

Thanks I really enjoy Firefly and then watch Serenity which I was blown away! Serenity DVD is fine to show subtitle on top of the screen! I am using Tosbiu (DVD and video together) and via SCART using 3 SCART switch alternative to Freeview and DVD. I will try direct SCART to television

The DVD is original 100% But I am wondering is it because it is tv format series.

I've got Serenity as well - great film. Haven't seen Firefly though.

I don't quite understand what you mean by subtitles at the top of the screen. Are you saying that some lines of dialogue are appearing at the top of the screen instead of in the usual place at the bottom?

Every time something dialogue come on like "Written by blab blab or Director by Blab blab" at the bottom of the screen then subtitle disappear but when I check on the smaller television subtitle was there but at the top of the screen! It won't work on my biggest television!

Same thing happen with "Team America - world police" DVD

Interesting. People who only watch this on a widescreen TV probably don't realise that there are missing subtitles. It does sound like your widescreen TV is cutting off the top of the picture. I'm surprised you can't fix the problem by setting your TV to show 4:3.

I fixed this problem before. Here is my advice that may fix this issue.

1) Check if DVD is region 2.
2) Switch ur tv to RGB format
3) Switch to arial or av cable
4) Set dvd player to output widescreen format
5) use a ps 2/xbox/another dvd player to play the dvd on same tv, if that works, then ur dvd player sucks big time
6) if this don't work.. buy a new tv :P

Tried all that - it is definetly television not DVDplayer. Thanks for your help.

I am going to ring tv company and complain and maybe get new 50 inch lcd state of art tv for a swap!
