Deaf Association Wales is promoting an 18-30 plus Deaf Kickboxing course for learners.

Kickboxing is fun and exciting, raises confidence, is great exercise and teaches self-defence, and is for women and men.

The instructor, Mike, is a fully qualified kickboxer and first aider and has 15 years experience. The sessions will have an interpreter who has interpreted for the coach and players in the Wales Deaf Rugby team.

The class is one hour per week and will be held on either Saturday mornings, Monday evenings or Wednesday evenings. If anyone is interested please e-mail Paul Leonard on paull@bda.org.uk

KravMagaMan
Hey everyone -bit of an old thread now but worth posting.

I run 2 of 4 schools for Krav Maga a realitybased self-defence system in Bristol and was wondering if there is

1) Demand for Self defence classes in the Deaf community and if so

2) What would be the best approach with regard to arranging an interpreter? or planning such a class?

This has all come about due to a discussion this past weekend about being accessible to varying groups with disabilities and it got me thinking (a lot).

We would do our utmost to be accessible to all and looking on the RNID site and a few others there sadly seems to be very little information with regard to existing martial art or self defence schools and/or how you would develop/set up a class?

This is something we are looking into across varying groups and if anyone out there could give me some ideas or points of contact for additional info then I'd be very grateful.

Cheers and take care

Clint

Before Signing up there are a few basic things you should remember:
* Accept your limitations - you won’t do yourself any favours if you sign up for Kickboxing classes that are beyond your capabilities. Be honest with the trainers and let them to lead the way.
* A Kickboxing Club that will allow you to try out a class, is definitely in your favour.
* With regards to Aerobic Kickboxing, look for a certified Fitness Instructor. For competitive Kickboxing, look experienced instructors.
* It is a good idea to have a physical check over before joining a kickboxing Club. Definitely, if you have any conditions, such as Asthma, are overweight, or have diabetes.
* Be prepared! Loose clothes and plenty of water. You’ll be glad of them both afterwards. Believe it!
