HELP US TO TRAIN A HEARING DOG

Hidden Hearing is proud to announce a national campaign to raise funds to help train another new hearing dog with the dedicated charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. A fully trained dog plays a vital role in alerting its owner to special sounds such as alarms and bells, whether at home, at work or in public buildings.

Throughout April and May, Hidden Hearing will be donating £5 on behalf of each customer who takes a free hearing assessment at one of its 77 hearing centres nationwide,. All the donations will be made by Hidden Hearing, one of the UK’s leading specialists in hearing health care, without cost to customers.

The charity relies totally on the generosity of people, companies and organisations to fund its work. There are approximately 650,000 severely or profoundly deaf people in the UK who could benefit from a hearing dog. Since the charity was founded in 1982 it has trained around 1,500 hearing dogs and placed them with deaf recipients around the country.

“£7,500 helps us to train just one dog”, explained Anna Banyard of the charity. “Training takes around 18 months from puppy to fully trained hearing dog, and it’s an intensive programme that demands a lot of specialist expertise. We’re really thrilled that Hidden Hearing has become one of our regular partners to help fund the training programme. Without support like this, our dogs just wouldn’t be able to make the difference that they do for people.”

“We’re delighted to be supporting Hearing Dogs for Deaf People once again this year”, said Graham Lane, Managing Director of Hidden Hearing. “We have become one of their regular fund raising partners and have seen at first hand the great difference that a well-trained hearing dog can make for its owner. All too often we take for granted those everyday sounds that let us know we need to take action – from something as simple as the door bell to something as life-saving as a smoke alarm. These dogs make a massive difference to give their owners greater independence, confidence and security.”

Hidden Hearing is a UK leader in hearing healthcare, and has been in business for 40 years with 77 state-of-the-art hearing centres throughout England, Scotland and Wales.

I think hearing dogs for the deaf is a wonderful charity and I support it as often as I can (little spare cash because my deafness has caused unemployment and my home to be repossessed) BUT the organisation is far too picky who it considers eligible for a hearing dog. I am registered disabled through hearing loss and also mobility problems.

I live alone and in total deafness/ isolation. Friends (because of distance) visit me for 6 hours once a year. Apart from that I see nobody. I never hear the door bell and have nothing and nobody to alert me and I am not considerered eligible to have a hearing dog. However I do support hearing dogs for the deaf as best I can because every penny helps and obviously goes to training a dog for a person who is worse off than I am.

That's a shame. From what you've described, I would have thought you're eligible to have one!

Did they say why?

Me too cc_confused.gif I thought by what you say you could have one too!

They have close their waiting list recently due to the number of people on the waiting list. Maybe that's why Muskrat was turned down

well before we have brought a puppy from our area which it cost £550 for a friendly dog with treatments and transfer puppy ownership included.

so thats why it worth it than waiting for a long time for a hearing dog..
