I wonder any shop sells DVD recorder subtitle which I am interesting to buy one in future. Thanks.

As I understand it, a recorder would need a teletext capability to record old-style teletext subtitles. I very much doubt that there are any DVD recorders with this feature.

However, if you have a digital tv adapter, I believe that any video or DVD recorder will be able to record the digital subtitles, because it is possible to record the TV signal after the digital box has added the subtitles to the picture.

These days freeview digital tv boxes will work with most TVs and only cost about £70-£80.

Experience of using the latest Freeview Pace digital set top box with twin features and a hard disc! biggrin.gif

Downside to recording to the hard disc does not, and I repeat does not record the subtitles when you know they are on! This occurs either in touch record or when set to record in the timer mode! sad.gif Despite subtitles being on the TV at the time!

Upside is it will record the subtitles to VHS recorder, so far so good! Downside is you need to leave the Pace set box on all the time and set the VHS to record when you want it! so limited to channel selected! dry.gif

So can DVD recorders record subtitles only manufacturers can inform us if this so. But to my knowledge no one I have spoken to in shops can attest to the possibility of this being feasible. Especially my local Panasonic outlet, home to the last VHS 888 recorder.

Unless. ... .... . .

Hi,

Disappointing that the Pace all-in-one box doesn't record subtitles. Sounds as though it records the signal before the subtitles are added to it for viewing, which to me is a pretty stupid feature.

However, having a separate receiver and recorder will always get the subtitles as long as the recorder is recording the signal after the subtitles have been added (ie. record the signal coming out of the freeview box).

Bullseye - If there is a current panasonic VHS recorder which records subtitles - exactly what model is it? because I thought there were no VHS recorders left with 888 capability, unless you manage to find a very old one. I think a lot of people on the deaf newsgroups would like to know if there is a new model.

Cheers,
Mat.

I merely stated that Panasonic were the last to manufacturer a subtitle recording VCR not that there was a new one!

Yes that is correct - as far as I know Panasonic were the last manufactures to produce a video with teletext capabilities. I purchased one last year, ex-rental but was 7 months old, for £120. A friend purchased one a couple of months ago again ex-rental for £90.

If you want, I can get details of the name of the shop we got ours from, however they did warn us there could be up to a 3 month waiting list for one.

This Freeview VHS Recorder is a one-box solution for recording digital Freeview subtitles.

I haven't used it or seen it in action, so this post should not be considered a recommendation.

So If Say you have a VCR that can record Subtitles then could you not link it in between your VCR + TV because if your vcr can transmit them to your DVD recorder then they would be displayed On Your Recording?
