Hi all,
Does anyone know anything about the presentation of subtitles on the new High Definition DVD formats (HD-DVD, Blu-Ray) - Is there a new subtitle format for these?
Has anybody actually seen subtitles on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray?
Cheers,
Mat

Begging your pardon, Mat, I have another question as well regarding HD-DVD and Blu-Rays.
Seeing how the HD-DVD and Blu-rays are always bragging about their disc capacity, does that mean they can add more subtitles than ever before? Currently, you normally get a selection of roughly between 2 to 8 subtitles on any one DVD.
So would it be possible for more subtitles (English HOH, French HOH etc) added onto the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs?

Despite the increased capacity, this would mean the studios spending more money on subtitling, so I very much doubt it will make any difference.

Atm the subtitles do not take much space, prob about require less than 10% of DVD capacity. however there is no mention of enhancing subtitles for next generation dics.

IIRC it is possible to store up to 32 subtitles on a DVD, so it is already possible to store different subtitle styles ("normal", HoH, etc.), but the studios don't use it. So I doubt, that the subtitling politics of the studios will change with the introduction of Hi-Def-Formats.
