beppo, the only reason rugby werent allowed in mary hare was coz we HAVE to wear hearing aids 24/7 .. cant play rugby with hearing aids on u knw (!!) .. i did ask about it and they said "well u can't play rugby with hearing aids on can you" ... naff to do with any knocked on the heads, see a perfect example of drama queen talk from a football fan .. heading the ball is just as bad as getting knocked on the head, so ur point is invalid !!
Spursgizmo - That was the excuse MHGS gave you. I never knew rugby was actually banned ( rather than just not played ) when I was at MHGS, I only learnt about it after having left MHGS and I was told the reason I gave earlier - perhaps I was told wrong. Pity Mr Gwynn was not allowed to play rugby ( he came from Swansea ) otherwise he would not have been so frustrated!

... from my experience, did i get knocked on the head REGULARLY as u make it sounds ?? nah pretty much lil .. and mind u my position was flanker (and prop in the minis when u could only use 3 players in a scrum) in the scrum so have a higher risk of getting knocked on the head and yet not got much of it ... once again u've made a truelly INVALID point !! but interesting u'd rather watch rugby !!
Do I understand correctly that you play rugby?

beppo, just spotted u mentioning getting knocked on the head can cause blindness .. hmm u get millions knocked on the head from boxing .. big fat heavy weight fights .. look at ali, lewis, tyson, etc .. are they blind ?? oops another invalid point dont u think (?!) sorry about the way i talk, i just dont do non-sense talks ...
Hang on! Did you know that Gordon Brown used to play rugby when he was at university? He was hit very hard on the head in a scrum and the retinas in both his eyes became detached and he needed surgery but lost the sight in one of his eyes so has a glass eye? As to boxing - as you will remember it was not done at MHGS either - still more worried about hearing aids than pupils eyesight or brains????
Having said that - I was not the one saying that rugby is too dangerous for deaf people - I know a few deaf people who played rugby after leaving MHGS, one having done so in the 6th form of a minor public school! I actually think MHGS was wrong to have banned rugby - I would like to think that I would have enjoyed playing it more than football even if it was dodging the fat 14 year old!
My Grandad was very much into football, he used to play for the old boys team of his old school before the war in a local league and was a class 1 ( or class A ) referee which entitled him to referee First Division league and FA cup matches after the war. But in the last few years, thanks to the pathetic drama queens like Beckham ( YUK! ) he went off football and watches rugby instead. So now you know why I am relatively more sympathetic to rugby than football.
